Happy Black History Month, sugas!

Happy Black History Month! Now y’all know I could not let the month end without sharing some facts with yall. It’s about that time we highlight some Black History honey! let’s get into it:

Kamala Harris

In honor of President’s Day, we’re going to talk a little bit about our girl Kamala Harris. Kamala Harris is the first ever woman and first African-American with south Asian heritage to become Vice President of the United States. That’s crazy! How many of y’all ever thought we would get to see a BLACK WOMAN in office? Won’t He do it! Our girl was also the first black woman to be appointed as California’s Attorney General.

Dr. Regina Benjamin

Dr. Regina Benjamin is the first Black woman to be named Surgeon General of the United States during the Obama presidency. She is from Mobile, Alabama and spent the majority of her time taking care of patients and their families on the gulf coast before and after she was selected to become the Surgeon General. She is also the first Black woman to be elected to the American Medical Association Board of Trustees.

Maya Rockeymoore Cummings

Last but not least, we’re going to spotlight one of our very own suga sistas! Maya Rockymoore Cummings is not only a member of the BWWLOLS, she is the former chair of the Maryland Democratic Party. A Texas native, she has been a part of several programs and organizations, received numerous accolades, and made an impact on our community on both the national and local level. We see you, girl!
